KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Tan Lee Mei made the country proud when she not only won the gold but rewrote the Asean Para Games record in the discus (F11-Blind) event on the first day of the 5th Asean Para Games (KL'09) here on Saturday.

Lee Mei, 23, who is currently pursuing a Massage and Acupunture course at Tsukuba University, Tokyo, threw 20.25 metres to erase the old mark of 20.12m.

"While in Japan, I trained with other colleagues without the assistance of a coach. I did not expect to do this well," she told reporters.

She dedicated the win to her parents, her coach here, teammates and all Malaysians especially those who came to the stadium to give her moral support.

The win was also sweet revenge over her Thai nemesis, Raksabiri Sawad, who defeated her to the gold at last year's Asean Para Games in Korat, Thailand.

Raksabiri could only manage the bronze this time after throwing 19.53m while another Malaysian, Tiong Ley King, took the silver in 19.79m.
